Jewelry Questions

  • Is your jewelry one-of-a-kind?

Yes and no. Most of my designs are one-of-a-kind. I also make jewelry in limited editions of 10 pieces, and a few selected designs in unlimited quantities.

All pieces are fabricated with the same care and attention to detail. The choice of materials and the process I follow to create the jewelry makes each piece unique, regardless of the number of times the design is reproduced. The description of each piece indicates if the design is one-of-a-kind, limited edition, or handmade in unlimited quantities.

  • Is your jewelry handmade?

I design every piece of jewelry. Depending on the design, some pieces are fully fabricated by my hands, while others incorporate the use of technology and/or hands other than mine.

For example, I outsource the laser cutting of my designs to a wonderful workshop in Amman, Jordan. They are also my providers of olive wood.

  • How should I take care of my jewelry?

Wear it often, treat it gently. When you are not wearing your jewelry, it is best to store it separate from other jewelry, to avoid scratches and tangling (the pouch that comes with your piece is a good place to keep it). Keep it dry. Take off your jewelry when doing contact sports, gardening, using abrasives and chemicals, or getting too dirty. Apply products such as perfume, cologne, hairspray, lotion, and the like, before wearing your jewelry, not on it.

Under normal circumstances your olive wood jewelry won’t need washing. If needed, use a slightly damp cloth to gently wipe it. The wood is finished with tung oil as a protective layer.

If after extensive wear the wood becomes slightly dull and you don’t have tung oil, you can gently rub olive oil over the whole surface using a lint free cloth. Use circular motions to apply the oil, and remove any excess when you are done.

  • The silver turned black, what do I do?

If your silver has turned black the easiest way to bring back its shine is with a polishing cloth. They are widely available. There are also many remedies online that you are welcome to use. I recommend choosing eco-friendly options. Try to keep the wood dry while you clean the silver portion of your jewelry.

Silver tarnishes relatively quickly when it comes in contact with oxygen or sulfur. One of the best ways of keeping your silver jewelry from turning black, is wearing it often, as the oils of your skin help prevent oxidation.

Another way of preventing silver from turning black, is keeping it in an airtight container such as a zip lock bag (included with all my silver jewelry). To clean your silver jewelry use mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Dry it well.

  • Can you help if my Anabelle Colon Jewelry broke?

Of course I can help! I encourage you to reach out to arrange for a repair of your Anabelle Colon Jewelry, instead of discarding it and buying a new piece. If your piece requires repair please do not hesitate to send me a message, including a photo.

Jewelry needing repair or maintenance within 1 year of purchase will not incur a repair fee. After the first year, there will be a fee depending on materials and the extent of the repair needed.

My location varies and, at times, it might be difficult for me to receive shipments. Get in touch so that we can discuss the best way forward. Shipping costs for repairs or maintenance are your responsibility.

  • I've lost one earring, can I buy a single earring to match?

Yes you can. Please send me a message, including a detailed picture of the earring you still have, to process your order. One earring will simply cost half the price of a full pair. The time it will take to complete your order will depend on the current production schedule. Check with me for more details.

  • Is there a warranty on Anabelle Colon Jewelry?

I offer a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. If you experience any issues with your jewelry don't hesitate to contact me, I am happy to help!

I will cover any repair or maintenance fees. This warranty does not include replacement of a piece of jewelry when it has been accidentally damaged beyond repair.

Any structural modifications or attempted repairs on your piece of jewelry will void this warranty.

Please send me a message with pictures of the piece in question and tell me what happened to it. Make sure to include a copy of your purchase or gift receipt.

Size Questions

  • How do I know my bracelet size?

Bracelets can be a bit tricky to size, as wrists vary slightly. A proper fit is important for comfort and style. A bangle that is too loose can fall off easily, and cuff bracelets that are too tight can be painful and unattractive.

Instead of using standard bracelet sizes that fit a range of wrists, all Anabelle Colon Jewelry bracelets show the measurement of the inner circumference and the width. Please follow this bracelet size guide to check for a comfortable fit.

  •  How do I choose the right necklace length?

Although most necklaces slip easily or clasp without problem around most necks, you want to make sure the necklace you buy is the exact look you are after. I want you to wear your jewelry as much as possible, and for that to happen it needs to work with your overall wardrobe, and it has to flatter you!

Here is a useful necklace size guide to help you check at home if the necklace you love is the length you are looking for.

  •  Are the earrings too big for me?

Sometimes people shy away from bigger earrings without giving them a try. I give you sizes in inches and centimetres, measuring maximum length and maximum width of each piece. If you are unsure how the earrings will look on you, follow this earrings size guide to test them at home before you buy.

  • Can the jewelry be resized?

Unfortunately not. If you cannot find the perfect size in the shop, please contact me to place a custom order. Here is how to do it.

  • How accurate are your listings, do I get exactly what I see online?

The jewelry has been described and displayed as accurately as possible on the website. Slight color variation should be expected since, inevitably, different devices show color differently. Measurements given are approximate.

Keep in mind that every product has been handcrafted and slight variations in color, wood grain, exact size and shape may occur. This is for me part of the charm and beauty of handcrafted products.

My much loved studio space is in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. I currently live, design, and make jewelry in Amman, Jordan. The description of each piece of jewelry includes where it was designed and made.

  • What do you mean by 'nomad designer'?

A jewelry designer that moves. Born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, I studied design and jewelry fabrication in New York City. Life gave me the opportunity to live in Santo Domingo, New York, Jerusalem, Abuja, Jarabacoa, Barcelona and Amman, so far.

I travel constantly and my inspiration comes from shapes, patterns and words encountered along the way.
